I have been having this constant dream. The dream of creating a really good software for pregnant women. When you have had the experience of loosing someone dear because of poor child health and/or pregnancy related complications (a story most friends know nothing about), you constantly think of solutions that will help the person next to you.
How it started
In April 2022, I led a group of friends who had started a nonprofit health organisation to get some items for an orphanage home. We didn’t have a lot but we were able to get some items for them. After the trip, I kept asking myself, “What will help us get more funds to support our cause?”. It then occurred to me “Why not start a company?”. Immediately, I started thinking hard about what i wanted to do with the company. After getting some few ideas, I started making powerpoint slides to pitch the ideas to friends. I came up with an idea of starting an artificial intelligence company. I didn’t know what I was going to do in particular but I knew I wanted to start an AI company. I sent out requests to friends to join the company. I made a series of presentations on what I wanted to do. Through presentations, questions and suggestions from friends, I started getting great ideas of what I really wanted to do. I got a number of friends to join, but with time, the number kept reducing. Finally, four friends stuck with me and they eventually became my co-founders. I developed the idea with them. We met every week to discuss what we wanted to do. We got clear what we were going to do. It was now time to register a company.
Formation of the Company
I led the formation and registration of the company with the help of my co-founders. From the very start, I named the company DeaRx(Dearest). But in the end, we found the best name for it, DeaRx Technologies Limited Company.
What’s DeaRx Mom
Most of my friends, classmates and colleagues know how passionate I am when it comes to child health. I have come to appreciate that to have a healthy child, preparation starts from when the mother and father are teenagers. What they, especially the mother, do from their teenage years through to labour affects the child. This is why our first project “DeaRx Mom” focuses on reproductive, maternal and child health. We hope that years to come, we will build an AI software that helps teenagers, couples preparing to get pregnant, women who weren’t expecting to get pregnant, pregnant women, mothers and fathers.
Are we qualified?
In the past two years, I have taught myself software engineering, project management, accounting, finance etc. I have also taken a Machine Learning and Data Science program by MIT. My co-founders have also been busy building their capacity to make this work. My co-founders have knowledge and work in the spaces of UI/UX, Database Administration, Social Media Management, Midwifery, Pharmacy, Psychology, Organisational Development etc. We have reached out to a number of midwives who are willing to join the team.
I know I cannot do this alone. That’s why I have always reached out to friends. Even now, we know there are a lot of expertise we don’t have. I hope to gather more like-minded people and create value for pregnant women and children . We hope to continue building connections.
